Greetings Art Lovers:
This weekend is the deadline to send us your nomination for Ulster County Executive’s Arts Awards – if you know someone working in Ulster County that makes a difference in the arts, supports the arts and culture scene, or is a rising star (student with exceptional promise in the arts) please nominate them today! The deadline for public nominations is this Sunday night – here is a link to the nomination form.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Friday night at the Arts Mid-Hudson gallery, guest curators Emilie Houssart and Xuewu Zheng present a group exhibition, Catalytics. Here is a link to an article about the exhibit, which opens with a reception on Friday night, 5:00-7:00 p.m. – come experience what happens when artistic elements are brought together with a passive agent, or catalyst.

Prepare for St. Patrick’s Day on Friday night at the Town of Esopus Library – join Pat Manfrates and Catskill Mountain Pipes and Drums to learn how bagpipes work. They will be playing bagpipes in full regalia and answering questions – it will be a rousing, loud time! Free, but please RSVP: 845-338-5580
Saturday at Tivoli Artists Gallery (TAG) hosts Smoke Signals- Expressions on humanity, social change and the earth’s balance, curated by Dan Goldman. The exhibit is a call to action through art, sculpture, photography and poetry opening with a reception Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. Exhibit runs through Sunday, April 2.

On Sunday ease into your workweek with The Four Nations Ensemble performing Bach and the Italians, presented by the Rhinebeck Chamber Music Society. Nice program notes here to consider before the concert. 3:00 p.m.

Dance aficionados, Sunday at Kaatsbaan International Dance Center the UpStream® Residency Series begins with Bryn Cohn + Artists. Stage Buddy wrote, “Cohn’s intricate choreography lends itself especially well to the tableaux of love and connections she creates.” 2:30 p.m.
Don’t miss the retrospective exhibit of acclaimed Hudson Valley artist, Elayne Seaman, exhibiting “The Joy in Detail,” featuring a selection of over 20 of Seaman’s paintings created on paper board covered in white china clay ground. Ms Seaman was also a recipient of many awards and honors, including the Dutchess County Executive’s Arts Award for Individual Artist. Exhibit up through March 16 at

PERFORMANCE AND PANEL AT THE DORSKY

Saturday enjoy an entire afternoon at the Dorsky Museum with two events. Performance art by Thomas Albrecht in conjunction with Intimately Unfamiliar exhibit, (12:00-2:00 p.m.), followed by a panel discussion: “Carl Walters and Woodstock Ceramic Arts.” Exhibition Curator Tom Wolf moderates a panel with Tom Folk, Caroline Hannah, and Bill Rhoads.

SUNDAY SALONS: BURIED TREASURE: THOMAS COLE’S DECORATION OF CEDAR GROVE
Meet the historic interiors experts – Jean Dunbar, of Historic Design, Inc. and Matthew Mosca, of Artifex, Ltd. – as they reveal the story behind the amazing discovery of Thomas Cole’s decorative painted borders on the walls of his home that had been hidden from view for over a century. The borders will be unveiled in May with the completion of the Parlors, an immersive experience in the newly restored rooms in the Main House.
