Amenia Fire

On the morning of March 2, 2017 at 3:20am the Amenia Fire Company was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm in the Northeast corner of the district. Upon arrival Chief Aaron Howard and 1 st Assistant Chief Virgel Shook, found an unoccupied 2.5 story Victorian with an audible alarm sounding. During the scene size up it was discovered that there was a smoke condition in the dwelling. Unable to determine the cause from the exterior, Chief Howard upgraded the assignment to a full structure fire alarm. The first arriving engine was utilized for the primary search operation. Lines were stretched to the door as the search team gained entry and found a toaster fire in the kitchen. The toaster and contents were quickly removed. The house was quickly and efficiently searched for possible victims. No further damage or fire was found and the fire was declared out within 25 mins from the initial arrival of officers. The Amenia Fire Company would like to thank the members for their quick and decisive action that played an important role in keeping this fire contained protecting contents while allowing all members to return home safe.  We would further like to thank the mutual aid companies of Wassaic, Sharon CT, and Millerton as well as the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Amenia building inspector.
