Local Author Inspires at The Pawling Library

By Donald Partelow

“I remember when you first started writing your story,” a patron excitedly said to our presenter, Stephanie Rogers.  Both of these ladies attended our monthly memoir writing group From Memory to Family Memoir which was created by writer Robin Lester. Stephanie continues to participate. Each month she wrote and told her story at Mr. Lester’s program. Her autobiography The Horse I Belong To: How a Misused, Almost Forgotten Grade Mare Showed Me the Way was recently published and she shared with the audience passages from her book. In her autobiography she gives special thanks to the Pawling Library and to Mr. Lester. Ms. Rogers read beautifully, only having to glance at her words that she knew by heart. A heart that the audience fully connected to. The people were free to ask questions throughout but for the most part there was silence as everyone was held in a gaze of great interest. There was joy for this talented person who has overcome many obstacles and made a dream come true. Applause and praise followed her reading. There is more yet to come and as all would agree, well deserved.
