Newburgh Man Arrested for Assault

PRESS RELEASE

On February 26, 2017, the New York State Police, Marlboro PD and Ulster County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a victim with a gunshot wound.  Patrols responded to a private residence in the Town of Marlboro and located a 21 year old female with a single gunshot wound to her face.  The victim was transported to Westchester Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.  Investigation revealed that DARREN J. OLYMPIA, age 21, of Newburgh, NY retrieved a legally owned handgun which he recklessly discharged one round from and inadvertently struck the victim in the face.  OLYMPIA was arrested for the following charges:

Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony
Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a Class D Felony

OLYMPIA was arraigned before Town of Marlborough Justice Jackson and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of 25k cash or 50k bond.
