Obituary, Ann D. Whalen

 

Ann D. Whalen, 85, passed away at her home in Millbrook surrounded by her loving family on February 22, 2017. The daughter of Thomas J. and Marcella T. Dahoney, she was born on April 24, 1931 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, New York. A resident of Amenia, she graduated from Amenia High School in 1948. She became a Registered Nurse having graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Poughkeepsie, New York. She then worked at Sharon Hospital and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

On May 7, 1955, she married George T. Whalen, Jr. of Millbrook, New York at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Amenia, New York. They have lived in Millbrook for over 60 years where she was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church. She also served on the Board of Trustees at Cardinal Hayes Home for Children for over 35 years.

Ann is survived by her loving husband George, her children Joan W. Frenzel and husband John, Ann W. Marti and husband Luis, George T. Whalen III and wife Susan, Michael J. Whalen and wife Danette, as well as ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held at  3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, New York on Friday, February 24 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Amenia, New York on Saturday, February 25 at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Millbrook.
