Obituary, Barbara Corliss Velletri

Barbara Corliss Velletri died peacefully at Sharon Healthcare on February 9, 2017 at the age of 95 after a period of declining health. Barbara is survived by her children Louise M. Velletri of Tappahannock,Virginia, her son Richard Corliss Velletri and his wife Carolyn Moseley Velletri of Rockville, Virginia, and her daughter Joanne who resides at home in Millbrook. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Louis J. Velletri, her parents Edward Perry Corliss and Antoinette Deyo Corliss, her sister Margaret Lamont and her husband Dr. Charles Lamont and their son Robert C. Lamont. Robert’s wife Marcia and their son Christopher survive. A decedent of the New Paltz Patentees (Christian Deyo) she was also predeceased by her uncles Norman and Henry Deyo. Barbara is also survived by her niece Susan Lamont of Maine and her children Cory and Amy, Eric and Kip Deyo of Poughkeepsie, Joseph Velletri III (Kathleen) and son Joseph IV of Millbrook, and Judy Velletri of Amenia. Barbara graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1938; she went on to earn a B.A. degree from Mount Holyoke College in 1942 and an M.A. in History in 1943. She taught Social Studies at Millbrook High School for three years and at Arlington High School for two years. She was married to Louis J. Velletri on January 2, 1949 and has made her residence on Nine Partners Lane ever since. Barbara had a keen interest in community service. She was Past Vice President of the Town of Washington Republican Club, former member of the Poughkeepsie A.A.U.W, a member of the Dutchess County Historical Society, The New Paltz Historical Society, The Deyo Family Association of New Paltz, The Daughters of the American Revolution, and Past Vice President and member of the Mount Holyoke Club where she also served as head Class Agent. Barbara was an active leader in the Girl Scouts of America and in the Cub Scouts; she volunteered as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association and The American Cancer Society. At Barbara’s request, there will be no calling hours and the graveside service will be private. Her family invites friends and family for a reception to celebrate her life at Lyall Memorial Federated Church, 30 Maple Avenue, Millbrook, New York on Wednesday, February 15th from noon until 2:00 p.m. The family suggests if you would like to honor Barbara that you donate to the charity of your choice or to the American Cancer Society, 2678 South Road, Suite 163, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
