BEACON – Irene Durso- Schaefer, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 24, 2017. She was born on December 7, 1936 in Beacon, to the late John and Ethel (Wood) Lewis. She worked for many years as a cook at Wassaic Developmental Center until her retirement. She loved to go camping, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed QVC. Most of all she was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands; Rosemarie and Adam Akins, and Alice and Daniel Harrison. Her five loving grandchildren; Emma Gardner, Lynnanne Cipriani, Daniel Harrison Jr., Tabitha and Brianna Akins. In addition to four great grandchildren, her son -in-law, Timothy Gardner, and her sister Marjorie Travis. Also Several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Irene is also predeceased by her husbands, Alfred Durso, and Walter Schaefer. Her daughter Debra Gardner, and grandson, Timothy Gardner Jr.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 5:00pm, Sunday, January 29, 2017, at 1028 Main Street, Fishkill, New York. A funeral service will be from the funeral home Monday at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
