Obituary, James Patrick Hurley

Wassaic – James Patrick Hurley, 80, a three year resident of Wassaic formerly a longtime resident of Amenia, NY died peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie with his loving family at his side. Jim was a farmer in Eastern Dutchess County, a career that span over 50 years. He worked for Murphy’s Farm in Pine Plains, Bel Aire Farms and Lightning Tree Farm in Millbrook and for Destined Wind Farm in Amenia prior to his retirement.

Born May 22, 1936 in Sharon, CT he was the son of the late James T. and Florence (Hanley) Hurley. On June 29, 1968 in Sharon, CT he married the love of his life Shirley A. Sterling. Mrs. Hurley survives at home. Jim was an avid collector of die cast John Deere Tractors and other John Deere memorabilia. He also had an extensive collection of NASCAR die cast models with a special emphasis on his favorite driver Kyle Busch. He enjoyed driving his wife to tag sales, word search puzzles, lasagna and spending time with his favorite niece Meghan Van Leuvan and all his nieces and nephews. Jim was also a member of Faith Bible Chapel of Shekomeko in Millerton. He will be dearly missed by all.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his two sons, Michael Hurley and his Fiancé Shalay Cullen of Wassaic and Donald Van Ahn and his companion Judy Brandt of Millerton; his loving sister, Joan Hurley of Millbrook and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Hurley of Stanfordville and his sister Helen Killmer of Millbrook.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 10-11:30am at Faith Bible Chapel, 222 Silver Mountain Rd., Millerton, NY. Funeral services will take place at 11:30 at Faith Bible Chapel. Pastor William Mayhew will officiate. Burial will follow at Amenia Island Cemetery, Route 343, Amenia, NY.
