Obituary, Carol H. Hackmann

   
Carol H. Hackmann, known to many as Aunt Carol , died on January 16, 2017 at her home in Pawling New York at the age of 96. At her request, she was cremated. There will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held at a date and place to be announced later.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Louise, nee Williams, Hackmann, five brothers, six sisters, one nephew, and one niece. She is survived by ten nieces, ten nephews,44 great-nieces and nephews, 43 great-great nieces and nephews, scores of friends and neighbors. She was born on August 25, 1920 in East St. Louis, Illinois and lived for 77 years on Signal Hill in Belleville, Illinois prior to moving to Pawling, New York in 2006.
    She retired from Sears in 1980 after 32 years with the company. After retirement, she served as a volunteer tax-aide for AARP. Meals on Wheels program, SCORE. She worked as a part time office clerk at Effinger Garden Center in Belleville, Illinois for 20 years, then retired again to pursue her hobbies of antique shopping and making miniature furniture for her doll houses, as well as writing family history and anecdotes.
    She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Belleville, Illinois where she was also a Helmsman Mariner, Trustee emerita of Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois, Belleville Chapter DAR, Lieutenant Samuel Cherry Chapter DAC, Rob Morris Chapter No.98, OES, Judea Shrine WSJ, Wednesday Evening Club, Saint Clair County Historical Society, Historical Society of Quaker Hill and Pawling, Steamship Historical Society, Signal Hill Neighborhood Association. Throughout her career she was honored many times for her participation in and fund-raising efforts for the many civic and charitable organizations of which she was a member.
    Memorials may be made to the organization of choice by the donor. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Resource Center, Pawling, NY 12564.
