Obituary, Elizabeth Anna McGhee

Pine Plains, NY – Elizabeth Anna McGhee, 93, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY.

She was born on December 19, 1923 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Reynolds) Church.

Betty graduated from Pine Plains High School and later earned a certificate from St. Margaret’s House and Hospital, a training school for well-baby nurses.

Throughout her life she was employed as a caregiver for both children and adults. She was also worked for a period of time in the local factory making children’s clothes.

Betty was a lifelong member of the Pine Plains First United Presbyterian Church. She has been a member since 1954. She joined the New York State Grange in 1949. Presently she’s a member of the Stanford Grange. She received a certificate of recognition from Governor Andrew Cuomo on April 26, 2015.

Betty loved Pine Plains and throughout her life was an active participant in the community in many other capacities as well. She was grateful for the loving support from the community during her later years which enabled her to remain in her home and enjoyed the things she loved.

She was an avid reader, loved her cats and all the nature surrounding her.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Howard, and her beloved twin sister, Marion.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Evergreen Cemetery in Pine Plains, NY with Pastor Carol Miller, officiating.
