State Police Highland investigate fatal motor vehicle accident on Mid-Hudson Bridge

PRESS RELEASE

State Police at Highland are investigating a 2 car fatal MVA State Route 44/55 at the eastbound entrance to the Mid-Hudson Bridge.  Investigation revealed a 2013 Nissan Altima driven westbound by Steven A Vaughan, age 31, from Poughkeepsie N.Y. crossed the dividing barrier and struck a 2008 Ford Focus driven by Mark Ashby, age 50, of Accord N.Y. in the eastbound lane of 44/55.  Vaughan and Ashby were deceased at the scene and ordered removed to Kingston Hospital by Ulster County Medical Examiner, Dr. J. Kurt Grovenburg.  A passenger of the Ford Focus was transported to Westchester Medical Center with facial and internal injuries.  Subsequent investigation revealed that Steven Vaughan was involved in a stabbing incident in the City of Pougkeepsie prior to the accident.   The assault investigation is being investigated by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.   State Police were assisted at the scene by the Town of Lloyd Police Department, City of Pougkeepsie PD, Ulster County Sheriff’s Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Department, Highland Fire Company, and the NYS Bridge Authority.
