Dover Troopers arrest Carmel woman for making false claims

Dover Plains – On 12/26/2016, BCI at Dover Plains arrested Virginia Wittenberg of Carmel, NY for Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 2nd Degree. The arrest stems from an initial identity theft report Wittenberg filed with the State Police in Dover Plains in July 2016. Wittenberg originally reported she had been the victim of identity theft.   An investigation into the matter determined the reported claim was false.  Wittenberg was arrested for filing the false report. Wittenberg was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Dover court on 1/5/2017 at 6 p.m.
