Columbia County teen charged with assault

PRESS RELEASE

Philmont, New York – On December 6, 2016, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested 16-year-old Sean J. Edwards of Copake, New York, for Assault in the 2ndDegree, a Class D Felony.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., Troopers were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a Main Street residence in Philmont for a reported stabbing. An investigation revealed that Edwards stabbed another teen in the arm following a verbal argument. The suspect then fled the victim’s home on foot.

A short time later, the suspect turned himself in to police and was placed in custody.

The victim was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Greenport Rescue Squad where he was treated and released.

The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.  He is scheduled to return to the Claverack Town Court on December 13, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.

The State Police were assisted by the Philmont Police Department and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.  Also responding to the scene were members of the Greenport Rescue Squad.
