Newburgh man charged with felony drug possession following traffic stop

Wappinger, New York – On November 16, 2016, New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks arrested Marise J. Hamilton, age 27, of Newburgh, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony. Hamilton was also charged with Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammo Feeding Device, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.

On November 16, 2016, at about 12:40 p.m., Troopers conducted a traffic stop for dark window tint on Route 9 by Smithtown Road. The driver, Marise Hamilton, was found to have a suspended driver’s license.  A subsequent investigation revealed that Hamilton possessed heroin, marihuana, bags, a digital scale, and a high-capacity handgun magazine.

Hamilton was arraigned at the Town of Wappinger Court.  The defendant was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond, and his next appearance was scheduled for November 17, 2016, at 5:30 p.m.
