PRESS RELEASE

Hunter, NY – On November 12, 2016, the New York State Police along with the Town of Hunter Police and Forest Rangers responded to a report of a man falling off of Kaaterskill Falls in the Town of Hunter, Greene County, NY.  Responding patrols located Anthony Miele, 30, of Newburgh, NY, deceased, at the base of the upper falls.  Miele was extricated from the gorge by members of the Twin Cloves Rope Rescue Team. Preliminary investigation into this incident indicated that Miele had been hiking at the top of the falls and was attempting to cross the water at the top of the falls when he lost his footing on the ice and moss covered rocks causing him to accidentally slip into the water and fall approximately 120 feet to the rocks below.  State Police do not suspect any foul play and an autopsy is scheduled for today’s date.
