New Hampshire Man Faces Larceny, Drug Charges

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a New Hampshire man on charges of larceny and drug possession.

On October 31, 2016 at approximately 11:25 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Christopher Tompkins was dispatched by 911 to respond to a report of two suspicious males in the parking lot of the Home Depot Store located at 80 Independent Way in the Town of Southeast. The male subjects were reported to be walking around the parking lot and looking into vehicles. Upon arrival, the deputy observed the two subjects seated in a parked vehicle. Upon investigation, the deputy determined that one of the subjects, identified as Dustin P. Averill, 22, of 4 Avon Road, Concord, New Hampshire, was the subject of an active arrest warrant for larceny in his hometown. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Averill was in possession of an item of stolen property from the Home Depot Store. The deputy arrested Mr. Averill and charged him with Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor, after a store employee identified the property and indicated that he wished to file criminal charges against Mr. Averill. During the arrest process, the deputy determined that Mr. Averill was in illegal possession of a quantity of a controlled substance. The deputy additionally charged Mr. Averill with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was arraigned at the Town of Carmel Justice Court on behalf of the Town of Southeast, and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,500.00 cash bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
