Medical Reserve Corps Offers Pet Preparedness and
First Aid Program on November 3rd
Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro announced the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) of Dutchess County will offer a program on Pet Preparedness and First Aid on Thursday, November 3rd, at 7 p.m., at the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response (DER), 392 Creek Road in Poughkeepsie.
“What would happen to your pets in the event of a disaster? What about animals on the many farms in the area? These are questions owners of pets and livestock should consider when building their own personal emergency plans,” County Executive Molinaro said.
The Dutchess County Animal Response Team will present their work and provide information on how to include animals in personal emergency preparedness planning.The Dutchess County Animal Response Team (DCART) is a specialized team of the Department of Emergency Response, comprised of veterinary professionals and trained volunteers from the community. They respond to assist Emergency Management at the scene of a disaster or emergencies that involve animals such as pets or livestock. Their mission is to ensure the humane care and treatment of animals in an emergency.
In addition, Paula Benjamin from Health Quest Community Education, who has worked in the veterinary field for more than 16 years, will present basic pet first aid and disaster preparedness for pets.
The Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County is comprised of both healthcare and non-healthcare volunteers as part of a national network of more than 200,000 volunteers dedicated to supporting public health infrastructure as well as disaster preparedness and response in the community.
The training is free, however seating is limited and registration is required.
