Lawrence “Larry” Markstein, 68, a long-time area resident died on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at his home in Wingdale, NY with his daughter by his side. Mr. Markstein was a therapy aide at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY for 30 years retiring in 1999. He spent his retirement years enjoying time with his daughter and being a fantastic “Poppy” to his grandchildren and helping his friends in any way he could.

Larry proudly served as Sergeant in the US. Marine Corp. from 1966-1969 with distinctive service during The Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.

Born on June 6, 1948 in Poughkeepsie, NY he was the son of the late Irving and Evelyn (Ferris) Markstein. Mr. Markstein is survived by his daughter, Amber Conklin-Montero and her Mother Rosemary Conklin of Wingdale, NY and a sister, Janette Inman and niece Debbie Hornbeck of Florida. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Joshua Montero and Madison Belisle. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Florence Maranucci and Loretta Murry.
