Hudson man arrested following joint Columbia County investigation

Ghent, New York – On October 14, 2016, the New York State Police from Livingston, working jointly with the Hudson Police Department and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, arrested 26-year-old Jermaine M. Jones, of Hudson, New York for Assault in the 1st Degree and Criminal Use of a Firearm in the 1st Degree, both Class B Felonies, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony.

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on October 13th, 2016, police were notified that a Ghent woman was being treated at Columbia Memorial Hospital for a reported gunshot wound.   An investigation revealed that the victim had been shot by Jones at a residence in the Town of Ghent earlier in the evening.

Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, she was transferred to Albany Medical Center where she is being treated for a gunshot would to the abdomen.  Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

The defendant was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail.

Senior Investigator William Mulrein of the New York State Police stated “The collaborative efforts of the agencies involved led to a timely arrest and the recovery of crucial evidence. The tireless work of the police officers involved with this investigation resulted in a dangerous subject being removed from the streets.”
