State Police arrest Athens man for weapons charges

PRESS RELEASE

     On 10/12/2016 The New York State Police at Catskill arrested Steven Parente age 50 of Athens, NY for Criminal Contempt 1st degree (a class E felony), twp counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree (class D felonies), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree (class A Misdemeanor) and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana (a Violation).  The arrest was a result of an investigation into shots being fired in a wooded area near a residence in Athens.  The investigation revealed that Parente was firing the weapon and in possession of a firearm and a shotgun in violation of a court order to surrender his firearms.  Parente was also found to be in possession of a metal knuckle switchblade knife along with a small quantity of marijuana.  Parente was arraigned before the Town of Athens court and remanded to Greene County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail / $30,000 secured bond.
