State Police arrest 7 protesters for entering the Algonquin Pipeline worksite

Cortlandt, New York – On October 10, 2016, New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks responded to 9th Street in Cortlandt for a report of protesters at the Spectra Algonquin Pipeline worksite.

State Police arrived on scene and arrested three protesters that had unlawfully entered the perimeter of the construction site after they climbed the security fence.  73-year-old Judith K. Canepa of New York, NY, Kim A. Fraczek, 41 years old, of Brooklyn, NY, and Judith Allen, age 71, of Putnam Valley, were charged with Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, a Class B Misdemeanor.  All defendants were issued appearance tickets directing them to appear in the Town of Cortlandt Court on October 16, 2016.

Four additional protesters were arrested when they unlawfully entering the construction site and remaining in a 1000’ section of uninstalled pipe.  The protesters refused to exit the pipe until approximately 11:45 p.m. when police successfully negotiated with the group’s leader. Janet Gonzalez, age 49, of Yonkers, David C. Publow, age 49, of Troy, Mackenzie A. McDonald-Wilkins, 27 years old, of Rhinebeck, and Rebecca J. Berlin, age 23, of Yorktown Heights, were also charged with Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree.  They were issued appearance tickets directing them to appear in the Town of Cortlandt Justice Court on October 17, 2016.
