Bronx Man Charged With Drug Possession

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Bronx man on narcotics possession charges.

On September 24, 2016 at 8:00 p.m., members of the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) were conducting ongoing checks of reported suspicious activity at a Town of Southeast service station when they encountered a subject in the side parking area who was acting in an unusual manner. The deputies made contact with the subject. A field interview and investigation revealed that the subject was there for the purpose of selling narcotics.

The subject was found to have a package secreted on his person which contained 40 baggies of heroin and 34 Alprazolam pills. In addition, he possessed $600.00 in cash and several cellular telephones. The subject, identified as Jeffery Gomez, 27, of Grand Avenue, Bronx, New York was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, felonies. He was arraigned before Town of Southeast Justice Gregory Folchetti and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000.00 cash bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the most serious felony charge, the defendant could face up to twenty five years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $30,000.00.
