Columbia County residents arrested for endangering the welfare of a 3-month-old child

Canaan, New York – On September 9, 2016, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks charged Nicholas Palermo, age 37, and 26-year-old Brittney L. McMullen, both of Claverack, New York, with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On September 2, 2016, Trooper responded to a reported drug overdose that occurred at the Berkshire Travel Lodge, located in the Town of Canaan.  Chatham Rescue Squad administered several doses of Narcan to the victim and within moments were able to obtain the victim’s pulse.

A Subsequent investigation revealed that two other occupants of the room had used narcotics while caring for a 3-month-old child who was present at the time of the overdose.  Columbia County Child Protective Services initiated an emergency removal of the child from the incident location.

An additional arrest is pending.

Palermo and McMullen were both issued appearance tickets directing them to appear in the Town of Canaan Justice Court on September 22, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
