Millerton – Lydia Johnson, 98, went home to the loving arms of God on September 4, 2016 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family. Lydia was the daughter of the late Elvin and Laura (Edelman) Snyder. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Sanford) Kaplan; her daughter- in- law, Susan Crawford; two grandsons, Brian Stapleton and Lorin (Mary) Stapleton; two step- granddaughters, Mary (Stephen) Pelchar and Dawn (Robert) Sheehan; two great- granddaughters, Bridget and Colleen Stapleton and several nieces and nephews. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Johnson, her dear friend and traveling companion Lee Miller, her son Thomas Crawford, a step-daughter Monica Provencher and her step-grandson Peter Wilson.

As a young woman, Lydia played forward on Millerton High School’s Dutchess County Championship Basketball Team. She was also a swimmer, a softball player and bowled in a league for many years. She enjoyed taking walks throughout her life, especially with her dear friend, Bessie Spaulding.

Lydia was a hairdresser by profession and had her own beauty shop for over 30 years in Millerton. She was a beautiful woman inside and out and she enjoyed making others beautiful. Lydia sang in the choir in her youth and was an Elder in the Millerton Presbyterian Church. She was a source of strength and courage for all who knew her.

Her family is deeply grateful to The Fountains at Millbrook and especially Adaliene Archer who provided such wonderful care and assistance to Lydia at home and to Hudson Valley Hospice which also provided loving and gentle care during the final weeks of her life.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11 am at the Millerton Presbyterian Church, 58 Main Street, Millerton, NY. Rev. Zora F. Cheatham will officiate. Burial will follow at Irondale Cemetery, Millerton, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Millerton Presbyterian Church, P.O.
