State Police from Hawthorne investigate hit-and-run car vs pedestrian collision

Eastchester, New York – On Sunday, August 21, 2016, at approximately 9:24 p.m., Eastchester Police Department responded to investigate a hit-and-run auto vs. pedestrian collision that occurred on White Plains Post Road (State Route 22) in Eastchester. On August 25, 2016, The Eastchester Police Department requested the assistance of the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and turned over the investigation.

Pursuant to a State Police investigation, it was discovered that a dark colored pick-up truck was traveling northbound when an elderly woman entered the roadway to cross the street in an easterly direction.  The driver of the truck subsequently struck the pedestrian and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

The victim, identified as Irene Macchia, was transported to Westchester Medical Trauma Center.  Mrs. Macchia received serious, but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Hawthorne are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the crash contact investigators by calling (914) 769-2600. All calls can remain confidential.
