Fatal Motorcycle vs Tractor Trailer Accident on I-87 in the Town of Greenburgh

Greenburgh, NY – On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at approximately 11:23 a.m., State Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred southbound mid span on the Tappan Zee Bridge. The accident involved a motorcycle and tractor-trailer.

The accident is still under investigation.  More information will be released as it becomes available.

The accident was reconstructed by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU).  Moments prior to the accident, witnesses stated observing the operator of a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle, Jose S. Capo, 38, of Nyack, NY, driving in an aggressive manner, weaving through traffic.  The investigation determined Capo lost control of the motorcycle, crashed into the rear of an unknown pickup truck, becoming ejected, before being struck by a 2012 Volvo tractor-trailer. Capo was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Westchester County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer, Hashani Haqif, 55, of Harrisburg, PA, was not injured.  Sygma Network Inc. of Dublin, OH, owns the tractor-trailer.

No charges are pending.
