Obituary, Harold Joseph Flatau, III

Pine Plains, NY – Harold Joseph Flatau, III, Hal to all who knew and loved him, peacefully passed away early on the morning of August 21st, 2016, at his favorite place on Earth, the Little Red House in Pine Plains, NY. Hal bravely, and without complaint, battled cancer for a year and a half.

Born and raised on East 41st Street in Manhattan, Hal spent weekends and summers with his family in Pine Plains, NY. He graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA in History, and eventually settled in Westfield, NJ. Hal had a great love of history, nature, vegetable gardening, and writing poetry, and he loved hanging out (and partying) with friends. Hal had ups and downs over the years, but those who knew him recognized that loyalty was his greatest quality and gift to others.

He is survived by his son David Flatau; his brother Carl Flatau and wife Patrice; nieces Clara and Anna Flatau; Aunt Marilyn Gray; cousins Kathy Abraham, Patty Gray, Alisa and Megan Abraham and Katy Gray. Hal had 49 years on God’s great Earth and is now reunited with his mom and dad, Arlene and Joe, in Heaven.

We will miss our father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin.

Funeral service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 27th at First United Presbyterian Church of Pine Plains 3039 Church Street, Pine Plains, NY, with Pastor Carol Miller officiating.

A brief graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
