Dover man killed in one-car crash
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a one-car fatal crash which occurred on Slate Quarry Road in the Town of Rhinebeck at approximately 11:30 pm on 8/13/16. The driver/sole occupant is identified as Christopher T. Watkins, age 30 of Dover Plains.
On the above date and time Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Slate Quarry Rd near Wurtemburg Rd in the Town of Rhinebeck for a report of a crash, and upon arrival observed a 2000 Honda off the roadway with Mr. Watkins inside. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Slate Quarry Rd when the operator lost control, at which time the vehicle crossed over into the westbound lane of travel. The vehicle then exited the roadway and struck a fence and pole before coming to rest on the westbound shoulder. Mr. Watkins was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
At this time failure to keep right appears to be the primary factor in the crash, and the investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Town of Rhinebeck Fire Department, and more information may be released as it becomes available.
