Jefferson Valley man charged with felony DWAI drugs subsequent to welfare check on disabled vehicle

Yorktown, New York – On August 11, 2016, New York State Police from the Hawthorne barracks arrested David C. Vazquez, 28 years old, of Jefferson Valley, New York, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, a Class E Felony, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st Degree, a Class E Felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7thDegree, and Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, both Misdemeanors.

Troopers responded to assist a disabled motorist stopped in the middle lane of the Taconic State Parkway in the area of mile post marker 18.7 southbound.  A passing motorist, who was later identified as an off-duty police officer, stopped to assist the driver prior to Troopers arriving on scene.  The operator of the vehicle, Vazquez, was reported to be unresponsive to the off-duty officer.  The arresting officer arrived on scene and located Vazquez, who was now responding to both officers, impaired by drugs and in possession of heroin.

Vazquez was charged with Felony DWAI drugs due to a previous DWI related conviction within the preceding 10 years.  His driving privileges were also revoked due to a previous DWI related arrest.

Vazquez was issued appearance tickets directing him to appear in the Town of Yorktown Court on August 25, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
