Queens Man Arrested in Sullivan County for Possession of Psilocybin Mushrooms

PRESS RELEASE

The New York State Police at Wurtsboro announces the arrest of Fernando MACARENO, age 19 of Queens, NY for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony.

Mr. MACARENO was a passenger in a vehicle that was traveling on State Route 17 in the Town of Mamakating when Troopers stopped the vehicle when they observed the operator using his cellular telephone in violation of the vehicle and traffic law. A probable cause search of the vehicle subsequently led to the arrest of Mr. MACARENO for possessing more than 5 grams of psilocybin mushrooms.

 

The driver of the vehicle, Sean BARRIGA, age 22, of Kew Gardens, Queens, NY was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and several traffic offenses.

 

Another passenger in the vehicle, Oscar MEJIA, age 19 of Floral Park, NY was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Both Mr. BARRIGA and Mr. MEJIA were released on Appearance Tickets for the Town of Mamakating court.

 

Mr. MACARENO was arraigned in the Town of Mamakating Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $2500 bail with a future court date pending
