State Police arrest Brewster man following assault investigation

Brewster, New York – On July 29, 2016, New York State Police from the Brewster barracks arrested 25-year-old John K. Schoenfelder Jr., of Brewster, New York, for Assault 2ndDegree, a Class D Felony, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a Class D Felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

On July 29, 2016, The New York State Police and Village of Brewster Police Department responded to assist EMS at the Brewster Fire Department with a reported assault. Putnam County 911 reported that the victim arrived at the fire house for medical assistance after he had been cut with a knife by a male acquaintance.  An investigation revealed that Schoenfelder cut the victim’s neck with a knife. The victim was treated for a laceration to his neck that was deemed to be non-life-threatening.  The suspect was located on North Main Street by responding police agencies and placed in custody.

Schoenfelder was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.  He is scheduled to appear in the Village of Brewster Court on August 1, 2016.

The State Police were assisted by the Village of Brewster Police Department and the MTA Police.
