Florence AL – Richard John Trott, 93, of Florence passed away on May 27, 2016 after an extended illness. He was born in the Bronx, New York City on April 18, 1923. He moved to Dover Plains, New York and attended Dover Plains High School. Richard served in the United States Navy on the USS Lake Champlain during World War II. He worked at I.B.M. Poughkeepsie, New York for many years. He then transferred to I.B.M. in Raleigh, North Carolina. After working at I.B. M. for 38 years he retired and moved to New Port Richey, Florida. In 2005, he and his wife Rosemary moved to Florence, Alabama. Richard was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, the Loyal Order of Moose, 50 Plus and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Richard enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, traveling and working in his garden. He especially enjoyed Big Band Music and Ball Room dancing.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Roy Runkle officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Rosemary Ann Trott; sons, Dennis and Michael Shay; parents, Edyth and John Trott; brothers, Edward, Harold, Robert, Oliver and Donald Trott. He is survived by his son, Keith P. Trott (Maggie) of Clarksville, TN; daughter, Cheryl Trott Ferzoco (Steven) of Florence; grandchildren, Catherine Ferzoco of Florence, Kimberly and Nicole Ferzoco both of Boston, MA, Kevin Ferzoco of Rochester, MN, Keith D. Trott and Diana Trott Edwards both of Florida, Aaron Shay of North Carolina, Brittany Shay of New York; daughter-in-law, Carol Shay of Southport, NC; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. E. Holden and Dr. Patricia Auxier, Gentiva Hospice and all the wonderful caregivers for the excellent care given and the happy times shared with our father.
