Obituary, Theresa L. Johnston

SMETHPORT PA – Theresa L. Johnston, 85, of Lafayette, formerly of Pine Plains, N.Y., passed away Tuesday (June 7, 2016).

She was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Manhattan, N.Y., a daughter of Milton and Mary Banary. On June 24, 1950, in New York City, N.Y., she married Joseph T. Johnston, who died Nov. 25, 1999.
Mrs. Johnston was a homemaker for the majority of her life, tending to the needs of her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Marion Decker of East Greenbush, N.Y., Theresa (Steven) Putnam of Cyclone, and Frances Carner of Lafayette; eight grandsons, Joseph, Michael, Clayton, Matthew and Andrew Decker, Christopher and Nicholas Carner, and Wayne Putnam; one great-granddaughter and three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Theresa was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
In keeping with Theresa’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. on Monday in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor as celebrant.
