Walkway Marathon Draws International Participation

Walkway Marathon Draws International Participation

Just like last year’s inaugural event, this weekend’s Walkway Marathon has attracted runners from across the country and around the world to Dutchess County, enjoying everything that makes us distinctly Dutchess – from the vistas along our pristine William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail and Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, to the world-class dining and tourism sites.

More than 2,600 participants, ranging from beginning runners to elite athletes, will visit Dutchess County for the 2016 Walkway Marathon race series. Events include Saturday’sfirst-ever “Think DIFFERENTLY” Dash for runners of all abilities, followed by the Walkway Marathon Health and Wellness Expo, andSunday’s 5K, half-marathon and marathon races.

Ukrainian athlete Sergii Vashurin, one of the world’s top marathon runners, will lead a similarly international field in the Walkway Marathon, fresh off his recent victory at the Saskatchewan Marathon. Earlier this week at Quiet Cove Riverfront Park, Sergii trained alongside Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, who is preparing to run his second Walkway half-marathon on Sunday. You can watch this video of their training session, as County Executive Molinaro talks about the international appeal of Dutchess County and the Walkway Marathon race series.

Whether you’re running in a Walkway Marathon race this weekend or lining the course to cheer for your favorite runner, be sure you LIKE Dutchess County Government’s Facebook page and follow us on Twitter for photos and videos throughout the weekend from the Walkway Marathon!
