Obituary, Catherine Mary (Kay) Bodin

 

Catherine Mary (Kay) Bodin, a Pleasant Valley resident since 1952, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after a prolonged recovery from a broken hip.

She was born on September 24, 1923 in Bronxville, New York to Henry Helliker Sloat and Estelle Veronica Wade.

On October 1, 1944 she married Walter John (Bud) Bodin, Sr., at Immaculate Conception Church in Bronxville. Bud predeceased her on April 10, 2001.

Kay graduated from Pine Plains High School in 1941 and the Krissler Commercial School, Poughkeepsie in 1942.

For years, she was an active member of the St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley; a volunteer for the Mended Hearts Club, Chapter 5; and the Vanderbilt Garden Association.She also was an active letter writer to numerous pen-pals (many also born in 1923). Family and friends will remember her with knitting needles in her hands and for her collection of sleds that decorated the house each Christmas.

Catherine is survived by her daughter, Barbara Mall and husband Michael of Round Rock, TX., and son Richard Bodin and Anna Monroe of Wappingers Falls, NY.;  grandchildren:  John Bodin (Anna Hill), Chris Bodin (Kelly Griffin), Sarah Mall Hanusch and husband Chris, Lisa Mall, and Georgia Petryszak.(Jeremy Minor); great grandchildren: Bryce Bodin and Matthew and Angelina Petryszak.  Catherine is also survived by her sister Mary Sloat Hunter, Walton, NY, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Her son Walter Bodin, Jr. predeceased her in June of 2010.

Abiding my Kay’s request, there will be no visitation hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, June 13 at 10 am from St. Stanislaus Church, Main St., Pleasant Valley. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Funeral Home, Pleasant Valley.
