Sheriff Promotes Thomas E. Lee to Sergeant
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith announces that Thomas E. Lee, a 15-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Patrol Division.
Sergeant Lee, a native of Patterson, began his service to Putnam County in 2001, when he was appointed as a correction officer in the county jail. In 2003, he was appointed as a deputy sheriff and has been assigned to the Patrol Division since that time. In addition to performing regular patrol duties, he has served as a member of the Countywide Emergency Response Team and the Sheriff’s Marine Enforcement Unit. Sergeant Lee is also a state-certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and acts as a Field Training Officer for new deputy sheriffs.
Sheriff Smith swore in Sergeant Lee to his new rank and presented him with a gold sergeant’s badge at a formal ceremony held on May 31st at the Sheriff’s Office. The ceremony was attended by members of the sergeant’s family and a number of his colleagues from the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff noted that the promotion to sergeant was a competitively tested, merit-based process and that Sgt. Lee had distinguished himself among a field of strong candidates by his outstanding service record. “You, your family and your colleagues can rightfully be proud of your promotion today,” the Sheriff said at the ceremony, “because you have truly earned it by your hard work and dedication to the people we serve.” The Sheriff went on to say that he was confident the new sergeant would prove to be an excellent supervisor.
