BERENDSEN–Mildred J., 88, passed away May 25. Beloved wife of Charles for 65 years and loving sister to Liliane, she profoundly influenced the lives of countless women who attended The Chapin School in New York where Millie was a history teacher and then headmistress from 1959 until her retirement in 1993. A graduate of Smith College ’49, where she received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 1991. Trustee for many years at Trinity Pawling School and the Browning School. Her family and friends mourn her passing and will remember her brilliant mind and her caring and loving spirit. Donations in her memory may be made to The Chapin School or Smith College.
