Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports that a man from New York City has been arrested on a drug possession charge in the Town of Southeast. Mr. Aboubacar Boubie Bagayoko, aged 20, of 492 Manhattan Avenue in Manhattan, is facing a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony.

It is alleged that, at about 4:30 P.M. on Tuesday, May 10th, plainclothes deputies assigned to the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit were monitoring areas in the Town of Southeast, when they spotted Mr. Bagayoko acting suspiciously within a parked car at a gas station. As the deputies approached the car, they reportedly smelled the odor of burnt marihuana emanating from within it.

Upon investigating further, the deputies reportedly found Mr. Bagayoko in possession of three plastic bags containing a total of 300 Xanax pills. Xanax is a prescription medication typically dispensed for the treatment of anxiety and panic disorders. Mr. Bagayoko allegedly had no prescription for the drug.

The deputies arrested Mr. Bagayoko and brought him for arraignment before the Town of Patterson Justice Court, acting on behalf of the Southeast Justice Court. Patterson Justice Anthony Mole ordered the defendant held in the Putnam County Correctional Facility and set bail at $2,500.00 cash or $5,000.00 bail bond. A bail bond was posted to secure the defendant’s release from the jail the next day, May 11th.
