Poughkeepsie woman arrested following larceny investigation

Poughkeepsie, New York – On May 6, 2016, the New York State Police in Rhinebeck arrested 22-year-old Shakilah T. Hill of Poughkeepsie, New York, for Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree, a Class E Felony, and Criminal Facilitation 4th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Hill was employed at Thrifty Check Cashing in the City of Poughkeepsie when a customer, who is believed to be known to her, passed two counterfeit checks. Hill violated store protocol by pretending to verify that the checks were valid and cashed them for the customer.  The defendant enabled the fraud by cashing the checks which caused the store a financial loss of over $2900. This incident remains under investigation as police attempt to identify the male party involved.

Hill was arraigned in the Town of Hyde Park Justice Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $1000 cash bail.  The defendant is due to appear in the City of Poughkeepsie court on May 9, 2016 at 9:00 am for further proceedings.
