Car/Pedestrian Fatality in Amenia

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reports the investigation into a car/pedestrian fatal auto crash, which occurred on State Route 22 near State Route 343 in the Town of Amenia at approximately 8:30 pm on 5/3/16.

On the above date and time Deputies responded to a 911 dispatch of a car/pedestrian crash, and upon arrival they discovered Theodore Miles Jr (age 52 of Amenia) lying in the northbound lane of Route 22 with serious injuries. Mr. Miles was transported to Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.<

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a Toyota Camry driven by Lei Qu (age 29 of NYC) was traveling northbound on Route 22 near Route 343 when it encountered Mr. Miles in the roadway. Mr. Miles was then struck by the vehicle after the operator unsuccessfully attempted to avoid him. The investigation is continuing to make a final determination on the cause(s), however at this time the primary factor appears to be the actions of Mr. Miles and no charges have been filed against Mr. Qu.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit, and more information may be provided as it becomes available.
