DUTCHESS SENIOR EXERCISE PROGRAM SEEKS LEADERS

You don’t need to be Charles (or Charlene) Atlas to lead an exercise group – but anyone who might be interested is welcome to attend the Senior Exercise Leader Workshop coming up Monday, May 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Town Hall, 1544 Main Street. Exercise has been shown to improve body, mind and soul regardless of age. Classes are held in 22 locations in all parts of the county and are conducted in groups of 15 to 20, using free weights for arms and legs, and chairs for support as needed. There are group leaders in their 90s and group members as old as 102. You can do this! For more information on exercise group leadership, whether you’re already a group leader or want to be one, email jfcurlee@gmail.com or call the Office for the Aging at 486-2555.

The Town of Hyde Park Historical Society’s ninth annual “Eleanor Roosevelt Knit-In” takes place Sunday, May 1. It’s the group’s primary fundraiser to help maintain its museum and Little Red Schoolhouse in Hyde Park. Participants learn more about the legendary First Lady while knitting or crocheting yarn blocks which will be assembled into afghans and donated to our troops, VA hospitals, battered women’s and community shelters, and others in need. RECORDING YOUR FAMILY HISTORY

We all have so many memories to pass along to future generations of our families, but it can be hard to figure out how to save them. Pawling senior citizens can get help becoming their family’s historians at an event coming up Wednesday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Pawling library’s community room annex. Their presenter, historian Robin Lester, will show you how to begin creating a history that will surprise and delight your children, grandchildren, and generations to come.  Make your memories into your memoirs!
