Former Fishkill Correctional Facility inmate charged with assault

Fishkill, New York – On April 12, 2016, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger barracks arrested Francisco J. Esmurria, age 19, formerly an inmate at Fishkill Correctional Facility, for Assault in the 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony.
An investigation into an incident that occurred in November of 2014 revealed that Esmurria had covered his cell windows with a blanket and was unresponsive when staff checked on his welfare. When correction officers entered his cell, Esmurria attacked them. One of the correction officers suffered a shoulder injury as a result of the attack.
Esmurria was arraigned before the Town of Fishkill Court and returned to the custody of New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision pending his next court appearance.
The New York State Police were assisted by the New York State DOCCS.
