Stockport, New York – On April 9, 2016 at approximately 4:09 p.m., New York State Police from the Livingston barracks were dispatched by Columbia County 911 for a reported disturbance that occurred on Route 9 by the Stockport Bridge.  Troopers located the vehicle believed to be involved in the reported incident at the Cumberland Farms Gas Station located at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 9J.

While interviewing the driver of the vehicle, he informed police that he was concerned for his passenger who just called him and stated that she was returning to the Stockport Bridge on foot.

Police returned to the bridge and located a distraught 30-year-old Albany woman making suicidal statements.  As the woman climbed over the railing of the bridge, Troopers were able to pull her from the railing to safety.  The woman was placed in custody without further incident and transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital for an evaluation.

The State Police were assisted by the Valatie Rescue Squad.
