Pedestrian dies after being struck by a motor vehicle

On 02/26/16, The New York State Police at Catskill investigated a one car/pedestrian fatal motor vehicle accident on ST-296 in the Town of Jewett. The investigation revealed that the pedestrian, FRANCINE BARBET (age 78), entered ST-296 from CR 23C and walked into the path of a 2004 Jeep, traveling Southbound, and was struck by same. The vehicle was operated by Joseph Disanti(age 65) of Shirley, N.Y.  BARBET was air lifted to Albany Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Greene County Sheriff’s Dept, East Jewett Fire Dept and the Ashland Rescue Squad.
