Obituary, Muriel May Chadwick Randolph

Muriel May Chadwick Randolph was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Charles Ernest and Sarah Elizabeth Chadwick on November 12, 1920. She graduated from Brooklyn’s Eastern District H.S. While still living in Brooklyn, she worked as a secretary for the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (A. Phillip Randolph), the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and for the State of New York.

Muriel met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Edward Randolph, one weekend, while enjoying recreational activities at the Holiday Hills branch of the YMCA in Pawling. They were married on April 11, 1968.

Muriel moved to Pawling, eventually resigning her NYS job and beginning work at Norman Vincent Peale’s Foundation for Christian Living. By then, her husband Bob was pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Stormville, subsequently moving to Beekman Baptist Church in Hopewell Junction, and lastly returning to Mt. Zion. Muriel remained a church member of Beekman. Bob passed away on January 25, 2003.

Muriel enjoyed living in Pawling; the clean air, her social life, and the many great loving friends she had made. As her health declined, however, her nephew relocated her to Lansing MI, in order to oversee her care. Muriel passed into eternal life on February 17, 2016.

Muriel was also predeceased in death by her brother Ernest; her sister Bernice; her brothers-in-law Thomas Wilkes, James and William Randolph; sisters-in-law Blanche Chadwick and Gladys Randolph; nephew Ernest Jr.; and many cousins.

Muriel leaves to mourn her nephew Gary Wilkes and his wife Ruby, niece Andrea Wilkes, stepdaughter Shirley Randolph Eglen, grandnephews Richard and Randall Wilkes, step grandchildren Le Jeune Eglen Heath and Ernest Eglen, great-grandnephew Maverick Wilkes; step great-grandson Daeris M.D. Heath, her goddaughter Robin St. Hill and many loving cousins and friends including the Perrys, the Williamses, and the Jordans.

“We will really miss her, but know that she is walking hand in hand with those she loved who have predeceased her to a peaceful place.”

Family and friends may pay their respects Saturday, February 27th at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY from 10 AM to 12 noon. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at noon; burial will follow in Pawling Cemetery.
