Mahopac Man Faces Felony Drug Charges

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Mahopac man on numerous narcotics sale and possession charges.

In January of this year, a deputy sheriff assigned to the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) developed information that a Mahopac resident was selling narcotics from his home on a regular basis. The deputy was able to make contact with the subject and arrange on several occasions to purchase heroin at the home.

During the course of the investigation, the deputy applied for and received a search warrant for the residence which is located in the Lake Ossi area of Mahopac. On February 10, members of the NEU executed the search warrant and arrested the subject in the home.

Kyle Novotny, 21, of 44 High Lane was charged with two counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree; five counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree; two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree; and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, felonies. The defendant was arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility without bail pending a future court appearance.

The execution of the search warrant resulted in the recovery of quantities of heroin, cocaine, MDMA pills, oxycodone pills, digital scales and cash. The defendant has prior criminal convictions for the sale and possession of narcotics.

If found guilty of the felony charges, the defendant could face 25 years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $30,000.00.
