Paraska Swantek, 96, passed away at the Dutchess Center for Rehab on Saturday, February 13, 2016.
A long-time resident of Pawling, she was born in Varadka, Czechoslovakia on February 23, 1919 to Jan and Anastazia (Guzy) Kocur. Paraska came to New York from Chicago, where she had worked at Forkosh Hospital, and was a nurses aid in Yonkers General Hospital in Yonkers, NY.
She is predeceased by her husband, Andrew Swantek, who passed away May 29, 1991, and several brothers and sisters. She is also predeceased by her son, Andrew, who passed away April 12, 2015.
Paraska is survived by two granddaughters, Ann-Marie Swantek of Ridgefield, CT and Suzanne Swantek of Mamaroneck, NY; her daughter-in-law, JoAnn Swantek of Pawling; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Wednesday, February 17th from 9-9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM at St. John’s Church, Pawling; burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
