Putnam Valley Woman Charged With DWI

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrests of a Putnam Valley woman on a DWI charge.

On February 7, 2016, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich stopped a motorist who had been driving erratically and committing traffic violations on Oscawana Lake Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. The deputy determined that the driver, identified as Aga Rukaj, 45, of 15 Spruce Knolls, Putnam Valley was intoxicated. The deputy arrested Ms. Rukaj and charged her with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after the woman failed a series of standardized field sobriety tests. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and later released in her own recognizance pending a March 1, 2016 appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
