Drunk Driver Hits Pole, Faces Felony Drug Charge

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrests of a Connecticut man on DWI and felony drug charges.

On February 3, 2016, at approximately 12:05 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich responded to a 911 report of a property damage auto accident in which a car had struck a utility pole along Route 6 in the vicinity of the Middlebranch Reservoir in the Town of Southeast. Upon arrival, the deputy determined that the driver, identified as Douglas Robinson, 44, of 13 Parkwood Drive, Brookfield, Connecticut was intoxicated. The deputy further determined that Mr. Robinson was in possession of a quantity of cocaine. The deputy arrested Mr. Robinson and charged him with Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a felony. Mr. Robinson was evaluated by EMS personnel at the scene but refused medical treatment. He was arraigned before Town of Carmel Justice Joseph Spofford and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000.00 cash bail or bond pending a March 3, 2016 appearance in the Town of Southeast Justice Court to answer the charges.

If found guilty of the felony charge, the defendant could face up to twenty five years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $30,000.00.
