Drive by shooting in Pawling

PAWLING – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspected drive by shooting at a home in the town of Pawling early Sunday morning.

Shots were believed to have been fired at a residence located on Route 55.

According to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the homeowner had heard the gunshots, but did not notice that the home had been struck until the next morning.

No one was injured and the bullets are believed to have been fired from a AR-15 rifle with more than one round being fired. Police did not disclose how many total shots were fired.

Police stated that the current evidence suggests that the shots were fired from the passenger side of a westbound vehicle on Route 55.

No suspects have been identified yet and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Capt. John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office urged nearby residents to be vigilant, but not to panic. “At this time, a suspect has not been identified, and, even though their motivation remains unclear, there is no evidence to suggest the victims were specifically targeted.

The Police currently consider this to be an isolated incident, and there is no evidence thus far to suggest otherwise.”

Anyone with information is being asked to call 486-3820 and ask to speak to Detective Twaddell. Tips can also be sent to the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 605-CLUE or dcsotips@gmail.com.
